Students and teachers from the Perry Community School District have shown appreciation for being in the school buildings amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Having on-site learning has involved several virus mitigation strategies though. Senior Reese Archer tells Raccoon Valley Radio he’s thankful to have some kind of normalcy with being in school, “Last (school) year and over the summer everything was kind of shut down. So, it’s nice to get back to normal, even though we have to wear masks and social distance. It’s still nice to go to school and see friends and be able to do all the normal things.”
High school teacher Broc Sorensen adds that it’s been challenging for him and his colleagues to adjust. Still, he appreciates the support from the School Board and administration, “We work really hard to bring the best education possible to our students. We really appreciate the support that we’ve gotten to this point. It’s not the perfect situation, but one thing that I can certainly appreciate is the fact that we get this time.”
While there have been a handful of confirmed COVID-19 cases within the District, contact tracing procedures have helped prevent significant interruptions to learning and activities.
