Greene County took part in Thursday’s Leon Fox Coed Cross-Country Invitational hosted by Perry just north of that community at the Perry Golf Course. The boys were eighth among 11 teams and the girls were not last for the first time this season. They had the minimum five girls for a team score and finished ahead of Saydel (Des Moines), finishing ninth in a 10 team field.
Des Moines Christian won the team title for boys with 37 points. ADM had 43 with 82 by Winterset, with Bondurant-Farrar 119, Ballard (Huxley) 142, Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) 148, Roland-Story (Story City) 169, Greene County 185, Boone 206, Saydel 317, and 328 for Perry.
ADM won the girls’ team title with 64 points, just one point ahead of R-S. Ballard had 69 points with 86 for Winterset, followed by DMC 96, Creston 108, B-F 178, Boone 274, Greene County 283, and 286 for Saydel.
Logan Woodruff led the Rams on the boys’ side with a career best time of 17:59 for five kilometers (3.1 miles), good for an eleventh place finish. Jayden Carstensen was 35th in 19:07, followed by Dakota Mobley 36th in 19:14, Ethan Frederick 44th in 19:48, and Ethan Larsen 59th in 20:26.
Conner Allender was the leader of the Greene County girls in 52nd place in 25:09. Olivia Shannon was 54th in 25:20, with Makala Kafer 55th in 25:45, followed by Autumn Stevens 60th in 28:24, and Sadie Wilson 62nd in 28:52.
Coach Jeff Lamoureux said, “Although we didn’t place as high as we would like as a team, I can’t complain about the times. Several of our runners had PR’s (Personal Records) for the meet with Logan Woodruff breaking the 18 minute mark. The first Ram runner to do so in a long time. Very tough competition at the Perry meet with several ranked teams.”
The Rams go to Lake City on Oct. 6 for the South Central Calhoun Coed Invitational.
