The City of Perry is celebrating the reopening of the McCreary Community Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony this week.
Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson says they’re ready to reopen the community center around 2-3 months ahead of schedule, “The blessing and curse of COVID is that we had to shut down the rec center early on to prevent the spread of COVID in our community and in that building. So we were able to turn over the whole building to the contractors, and they were able to get way ahead of their work. So (we’re) definitely very excited that we were able to get that done more quickly and get it back open.”
This concludes phase 1B of the renovation project that features a 24-hour workout center, remodeled locker rooms, multi-purpose fitness studios, and a child care area. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday followed by an open house for attendees to get a first-hand look at the improvements before the building officially opens Thursday.
