re-taxes

Heads up for property owners, the deadline to pay the September installment for property taxes is fast approaching.

Greene County Treasurer Katlynn Mechaelsen tells Raccoon Valley Radio the September property tax payments must be made by September 30th. She says the September installment was not impacted by the governor’s public health emergency proclamation, like the March installment was. Mechaelsen points out if September’s property taxes are not paid by the 30th, there will be a 1.5-percent monthly interest penalty fee until it is paid.

Mechaelsen says there are a variety of ways that people can pay their property taxes. Property owners can simply mail in their payments to her office, stop by her office when the Greene County Courthouse is open, pay online at iowatreasurers.org, or there is another contactless way to make your payment.

“If you still feel uncomfortable coming out in public, there is a dropbox on the east side of the building (the courthouse) that we check every day, multiple times a day. If you would like a receipt, you can just put a note in there (with your payment) that you would like a receipt and we can mail that back to you.”
