Greene County High School sophomore McKinley Robbins won by fall late in his Night of Conflict wrestling match Saturday night at The Arena in Sioux City. The Invitational event for high school wrestlers was hosted by IA Wrestle and featured 12 girls’ matches on Friday night and 15 boys’ matches on Saturday. Robbins wrestled in the 120A weight class. Many of the wrestlers were from Iowa, but other states were also represented.
Robbins pinned Carter Schmidt of Belgrade, Montana with 28 seconds remaining in the match (5:22) after being behind until the fall. Both were runners-up last winter as freshmen in their respective high school State Tournaments. Schmidt wrestled at 113 lbs. last winter while Robbins finished second at 106 in Class 2A in Feb. and was the first in 25 years to reach the State finals from the Jefferson-based program. He is a member of Seboldt Wrestling Academy, now headquartered in Jefferson.
