While the ceremony looked different compared to years past, Perry High School continued their annual tradition of crowning their homecoming king and queen Friday evening.

Jayson Chavez and Cindy Troung were named king and queen during the coronation ceremony held before Friday’s football game. Chavez tells Raccoon Valley Radio his favorite part of homecoming was the competition between classes, “It’s fun. It’s a great way for everyone to come together, not only as a grade level, grades being allies with grades for competition. So it’s just a really great way for everyone to just enjoy high school.” Chavez says he’s planning on attending Simpson College after graduation.

Troung says she’s thankful for the opportunity to have some celebration and normalcy after the COVID-19 pandemic started in the spring, “When COVID hit it was really hard, for us (then) juniors especially. I feel like we didn’t know if we were going to be able to get a football season, get that beginning of the year everyone was really excited for, especially for our last year. I think it really came together at the end.” Troung says she plans on taking classes at DMACC, then transfer to the University of Iowa. The rest of the homecoming court included Miguel Sierra, Riese Archer, Abner Rivera, Zach Darr, Claire Southward, Shelby De La Cruz, Ainsley Marburger, and Aubree Tasler.
