Gun rights were discussed Thursday night during a public Zoom event with the Democratic candidate for Iowa Senate District 10.

Stuart lawyer and farmer Warren Varley held his latest zoom event as Amber Gustafson accompanied him to give her expertise. Gustafson is a gun safety advocate from Ankeny that ran for Iowa Senate District 19 in 2018.

Both Varley and Gustafson noted that they support the second amendment and have been around guns their entire lives. Gustafson shared a story that she was inspired to advocate for smart gun laws following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012. This was the fifth listening post Varley has held where he’s invited experts to discuss education, energy, and healthcare. There were 27 people who joined the Zoom call. Varley is running against Republican incumbent Jake Chapman for State Senate District 10.
