As elective surgeries were halted earlier this year at Guthrie County Hospital and Clinics due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they’re now working their way back in terms of revenue.

CEO Pat Peters says fortunately the hospital was already in good financial shape before the pandemic set in, but he says they lost about 25% of their revenue earlier this spring due to not holding elective procedures, “Now that is starting to come back but it did have a real impact on us financially, because when you don’t have 25% of your volume you’re not going to have 25% of your revenue. And a lot of our probably 70% of our revenue comes from outpatient business not inpatient hospital side that’s about 30%. So it’s a big part of our business but we know that we’ve seen that there has been a steady increase in those numbers building back up and there’s no reason to think that that won’t continue.”

Peters says the GCH Board of Trustees is already planning for the future with a new Panora clinic location to be built later this year on Highway 44. GCH isn’t fully back to normal operating procedures though, as it was announced Monday that the Sneakers Cafe will remain closed to the public at least through October, though they are still providing curbside delivery for breakfast and lunch.
