The Greene County Farmers Market recently held its final event of the year.

Organizer Chris Henning says the market would have run until the end of the month, but there were a few reasons why the event ended two weeks early. She points out there were a limited number of vendors that could come and the number of positive cases of COVID-19 were rising. She talks about the other reasons for the early closure.

“We have some folks who have underlying conditions. And so we are doing social distancing, and (wearing) masks, and so forth, and extra sanitizing. We had some customers who didn’t particularly think that is what we needed to do. They decided to make a scene and we just rather not deal with it.”

Henning notes that despite all of the obstacles this year’s market had to go through and starting late due to COVID-19 concerns, she appreciates being able to have a farmers market at all during the year.

“For a truncated season, every vendor who is here tonight would all tell you that they had a really good season, and some nights they sold out, which is really amazing. It speaks to the need and the want for local foods.”

This past Tuesday was the final farmers market of the year.
