The former Iowa Governor recently announced that he is stepping down as U.S. Ambassador to China.
Terry Branstad was appointed as ambassador in 2016 and has served the interests of the U.S. in China since that time. Branstad’s son Eric talks about his dad’s transition from being an ambassador.
“Other than maybe President (Donald) Trump, I haven’t met anyone who works harder than my dad. He has absolutely loved representing the United States in China. He’s excited to come back because he loves Iowa more than anything, and he wants to grow Iowa. That’s always where his focus has been.”
Eric describes Terry’s accomplishments and the impact he’s had in his time working in China.
“We’ve been very fortunate to have him and he’s certainly representing not just the United States, but Iowa and Iowa agriculture. Nobody understands it, certainly better than my dad. He’s been able, between the phase one trade deal, and all of the other positive things he’s been able to do since being there, has been monumental for Iowa and for our future.”
Sources say Terry will step down as ambassador next month.
