A Des Moines man was recently sentenced for an Adair County incident that occurred last year.
Court documents show that 48-year-old Matthew Em Jones pleaded guilty to third degree burglary, third degree burglary of a motor vehicle, second degree theft, and possession of methamphetamine third offense, all class D felonies, and possession of burglar’s tools, an aggravated misdemeanor. The court amended the first two counts to trespassing charges, an aggravated and simple misdemeanor, respectively, and dismissed the other charges without prejudice, meaning the case could be brought back to court. For the trespassing conviction, Jones must pay $400 in fines with the statutory 15% surcharge, court and attorney costs, restitution, as well as any costs assessed from the dismissed charges.
The charges stemmed from an incident on August 24th, 2019. The Adair County Sheriff’s Office and several other law enforcement agencies located Jones at Kuster Salvage & Recycling in Greenfield. Jones was found to have broken into one of the vehicles at the business, and had burglar’s tools and methamphetamine on him. A search warrant was then executed of his vehicle after Jones admitted he had a railroad light in his trunk, which belonged to a residence in the 1600 block of Highway 25.
