Jefferson city officials attended a building tour of the White House Apartment project with the lieutenant governor Thursday.
Developer Adam Sweers talked about the project to take the vacant building at 215 South Wilson Avenue and restore 12 apartments. The project recently received a workforce housing tax credit through the Iowa Economic Development Authority. Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg talked about the workforce housing tax credit being an incentive for rural communities to bring housing opportunities to the economy. He talked about how progressive Jefferson has been recently.
“Jefferson has done such a great job and has been on the leading edge of so many different ideas and concepts. It’s great to see the workforce housing tax credit be one of the tools that they’re able to use now. I appreciate all that (Jefferson Building Official) Nick Sorensen does, he’s involved in our Empower Rural Iowa Task Force. He’s definitely a forward thinker, just like so many other forward thinkers in this community. We’re happy to tab into them and utilize their ideas and see where we can scale and expand across our state.”
Sweers notes there will be three one-bedroom, eight two-bedroom and one three-bedroom apartments. He hopes to have the project completed within one year.
