adm-7

ADM Tiger football was just a couple of feet of way from winning their home opener on Friday night,  but the Gilbert Tigers made a key stop for an attempted ADM two point conversion in overtime, and were able to escape by the score of 34-33. ADM falls to 0-2 on the season while Gilbert improves to 2-0 on the season.

In a crazy back and forth game that was unable to be decided in 48 minutes, both of these teams went to overtime with the score tied at 27. Gilbert was able to score on their possession with quarterback Tanner Henningsen finding Ethan Vesey for an 11 yard touchdown plus the extra point to take the lead. ADM would strike back immediately, with Tate Stine-Smith able to score on the first play from 10 yards out, and the Tigers decided to go for two. They ran Stine-Smith up the left side but was met by multiple Gilbert defenders at the 1, and couldn’t churn his legs into the end zone.

It was a tough end for a night that was really good for the senior quarterback, as he accounted for five touchdowns total, with four on the ground and one on the air.

ADM got out to a slow start for a second consecutive week, as Gilbert was able to find the end zone three different times in the first quarter, including a pick six from Trey Hansen, giving them a 21-0 led after one.

ADM would score on a pair of touchdowns from Stine-Smith in the second quarter of play, but couldn’t convert on extra points as they trailed going into the locker room by the score of 21-12.

ADM was able to get a stop going into the 3rd, and then got a big punt block from junior Cody Felt, who’s big play would set up a short ADM drive to chop lead to two. Gilbert would strike back with a huge 4th down conversion with a wild catch from Joe Drzycimski, and would score a play later to take an eight point lead.

ADM would come immediately back with a huge 4th down play of their own, as Stine-Smith found senior Jacob Yanacheak, who scored from a terrific individual effort to help tie the game.

After both teams traded punts, ADM got the ball back with under two minutes to go, and drove down to the Gilbert six yard line after key catches from junior Lucus Ray and senior Grant Garton. Unfortunately, the 24 yard attempt for the win was blocked by Gilbert, which helped send the game to overtime.

Gilbert would win there in one of the most exciting games the Tigers will see this season, but unfortunately came up just a little bit short.

They will be back on the field next week to start district play, as they take on the Warriors of Norwalk in Adel.
