The City of Adel has seen a decrease in water usage since issuing their water warning last month.
Since the water warning was issued on August 21st, the City’s water usage has dropped to around 600,000 gallons per day. The City issued the warning following a 24-hour period when there were 813,000 gallons of water used, which is the third-highest on record. While City officials say they’re happy with the reduced usage rate, the current drought prompts the City to uphold the warning.
There have been at least three infractions issued for violations of their proclamation which prohibits the use of water for lawn irrigation, car washing, and filling private pools. Failure to comply can result in fines of up to $500. Customers of the Xenia Rural Water District are not included in this water warning.
