With the fall high school sports season underway, Guthrie County spectators should be mindful of any COVID-19 restrictions in place for their local teams, as well as those away.
Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center High School has sectioned off its gymnasium to keep visitor and Charger fans on separate sides from each other, and the bottom two rows of the gym bleachers must be left open, according to the Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. They have also mapped out the home and away spectators and student sections on the football field and have designated an area on the southwest corner of the field for those wishing to stand or use a lawn chair. Face masks are strongly encouraged and they also ask that the bottom two rows of football bleachers also be left open.
For Panorama, all K-6 students attending an event are asked to stay with their family or designated adult the entire time while watching the event. Students attending football games are not allowed in any other complex and must be accompanied by an adult if they choose to go to the elementary playground. For indoor events, students and spectators are asked to stay in the gym or lunchroom area and not to roam hallways. Staff members will give warnings to students who are not following expectations during an event. Activities Director Erin Kirtley advises that if another school hosting Panorama has more restrictive guidelines, Panorama spectators must abide by them, and communication regarding fan expectations at away events will be on the Panorama website and Facebook page at least one day prior to events. Failure to comply with home or away event rules may result in suspension from future activities.
At West Central Valley events every other row of bleachers will be marked off to reinforce physical distancing, and elementary aged students are required to be seated with parents or guardians. The public may bring lawn chairs to sit on the north side of the football field, and all spectators are encouraged to wear a face mask, bring their own hand sanitizer and utilize handwashing stations. There will be no post-game gatherings as all spectators are expected to leave the facility immediately after the event, which Panorama also emphasized.
