The Iowa State Livestock and Static Exhibit shows have wrapped up for this year.

The Iowa State Fair was canceled due to COVID-19, but there were still 4-H and FFA livestock and static exhibits that were judged. Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Kayla Willms says four Greene County 4-H’ers competed in livestock, and there were 15 static exhibits. Of the livestock shows, Emma Halterman earned Champion Pony Western Pleasure and Champion Pony Halter Mare. Additionally, there were six purple ribbons given to Halterman, Tieryn Tucker, Elise Badger and Kyle Hughes. As for the static exhibits, five earned blue ribbons, seven red and one white.

Willms talks about having to do virtual submissions of the static exhibits.

“It was definitely different. We wanted to make sure that we showcased every piece of the project. We were only allowed four pictures per exhibit so it made it kind of challenging on what we really wanted to showcase. I will be thankful when we go back to the normal way because I think having those projects in hand for those judges means a lot more. But hey, the state did a fantastic job of trying to figure out something for these kids.”

Willms reminds all 4-H’ers to submit their records books for awards by Tuesday, September 6th at the Greene County Extension Office in Jefferson. Click the links below to see the full results from the state competitions.
