There are four team captains for the Greene County Rams football team. Seniors that are captains are Zach Goff, Sawyer Schiltz, and Jaxon Warnke. The lone junior is Bradyn Smith, a student at Paton-Churdan, one of seven Rockets in the shared football program.
Smith talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about being named a team captain as a junior. “When I heard my name get called, it was awesome! It’s a big responsibility. As a captain, there’s no messing around. You want to work hard because you have all this responsibility on you.”
Last season the Rams were senior dominated, but Smith was a starting linebacker as a sophomore. This he he’s a two-way starter- middle linebacker and offensive guard. Of last year’s senior class he said, “Those guys played a big role, but we definitely found people to replace those spots. I think we look good and we’re going to work hard.”
The Rams opened the season with a 49-0 victory in Perry last Friday over the Blue Jays in the “Battle for the Cowebell.” This week it’s Class 1A number two ranked South Central Calhoun (Lake City) at Linduska Field in Jefferson for the Rams’ home opener. The Rams are ranked ninth in 2A and the game can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage begins at 6 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m.
