The Adel Public Library is turning their attention to fall programs after a successful summer reading program.

Library Director Paula James tells Raccoon Valley Radio they received over 1,200 responses from participants registering to win prizes. Participants could win prizes for continuing to read throughout the summer. James adds there was constant excitement from the kids, “They really liked being able to earn a ticket for a prize. We had a couple of the winners on Facebook get excited about what they won, and one mom wanted an address. A retired person had made a doll with clothes, so they wanted to know the person’s name to thank them because they were so excited about it. There was a lot of enthusiasm for it, I think.”

The Library also received a lot of positive feedback for their craft program where kids took home a craft project to complete weekly. James says they had 471 kids participate over the summer, which they’re continuing this fall.

The Library is also transitioning into phase two of their five-phase reopening plan this fall. Kids can still come into the Library with an adult, but cannot be left by themselves to prevent congregating. James says they’re continually monitoring the area COVID-19 rates and will use that to determine when they can lift some of their restrictions.
