The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

During open forum, the Supervisors held another discussion regarding the Jefferson Police Department. Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams said if the police department losses another officer by the end of this week, his office would have to start responding to only emergency calls for any uncovered, 12-hour shifts for the police. He said because there is currently no 28E agreement with the City for law enforcement coverage, his deputies will only respond to emergency calls in the City and any non-emergency calls will be logged and the next time an officer is on duty, they will respond to those calls. The Board indicated that they can’t take their next step until the City makes a decision.

Also during open forum, Greene County Recorder Marcia Tasler announced her retirement effective October 30th. The Board will go through its process of how to fill that position.

The Board then heard an update from Greene County Engineer Wade Weiss. He said repair crews are expected to replace a broken window on the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower this week, along with replacing some of the bells that were struck by lightning from a recent storm.

Next, the Board approved hiring Amanda Clouse as a part-time dispatcher for the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. Williams noted Clouse is replacing another part-time dispatcher. Clouse’s pay is $14 per hour and when she becomes fully certified, her pay will increase to $15 per hour. Her start date is September 1st.

Finally, the Board decided to continue to meet both in-person and via Zoom video conferencing through September.
