The Raccoon Valley Radio listening area continues to face severe to extreme drought conditions.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, drought conditions have worsened over the last week. As of Thursday, 29.3% of the State is experiencing severe drought, compared to 23.43% last week. Extreme drought conditions remain in most of Greene and Guthrie counties, along with the northwestern third of Dallas County. The northeast corner of Greene County, the southeast corner of Guthrie County and two-thirds of Dallas County are under a severe drought. The southeast corner of Dallas County is experiencing moderate drought. The estimated population in drought areas is 1,577,422.

According to the National Weather Service for the month of August, Jefferson has had 2.29 inches of precipitation, Perry has 1.93 inches and Guthrie Center reports 1.22 inches.
