The Guthrie Center City Council held a public hearing to update on their clearwell improvement project at their meeting Monday.

The project began work in early July to construct a new 350,000 gallon clearwell with related piping and controls components and the demolition of the two existing clearwells. Work is about 21% complete, and to date $129,794 of the $500,000 Community Development Block Grant has been expended as well as $200,472 of a local obligation of $784,200 committed to the project. The Council discussed when work is expected to be completed, which Public Works Director Bob Secoy remarked the contractor Story Construction is estimating October. No other comments were made during the public hearing. Work is taking place at the City’s water treatment plant located at 106 West State Street, where its existing clearwells are over 50 years old and have exceeded their expected useful life.
