Central Avenue path looking west
Progress is being made on the four shared-use walking paths in Jefferson.
Earlier this month, the City Council approved the first pay estimate of $135,226 to Caliber Construction of Adair for completing the initial path on West Central Avenue. It is an eight-foot concrete path from Highway 4 to the new Greene County High School. City Administrator Mike Palmer says this new route gives more connectivity to the north side of the City.
“The way it crosses over and touches the school property (and) bringing a path actually from the high school to connect to ours, somebody could take it all the way down to there, and then cut over to Doreen Wilbur Drive and be at the casino. It’s just maybe with a little bit of a spur off of that, it’s there.”
Caliber is now working on a ten-foot concrete path on Grauer Avenue, south of Ram Drive to Greenewood Avenue. The last two will be on East Lincoln Way from the Raccoon River Valley Trailhead to the City Cemetery and replacing the walking path at Daubendiek Park. The total contract is $946,584, which the Council approved as part of a $2.4 million bond last year.
