Joe Biden's campaign stop in Perry in December of 2019

Thursday night during the Democratic Party National Convention, Joe Biden was formally nominated as the party’s presidential candidate.

Greene County Democratic Party Chair Chris Henning shares her thoughts about Biden as the presidential nominee, after he finished fourth in the Iowa Caucuses.

“I was kind of surprised but in the time since he became the presumptive nominee, and all of the other candidates have endorsed him, and seeing him through this pandemic, I have become more and more excited.”

Leading up to when Biden officially became the presidential nominee, he chose Kamala Harris – who is a former presidential candidate – as his running mate for vice-president. Henning describes her reaction when she first heard that announcement.

“When she first announced that she was running for president she was my top choice. So I was elated to see that they had chosen Kamala (as the vice-presidential candidate). The fact that she is black, and the fact that she is a woman, that she could be our first vice-president of both is pretty exciting.”

Biden and Harris will square off against the Republican incumbent candidates of Donald Trump and Mike Pence in the presidential election in November.
