The 10 Squared Men of Guthrie County chose the second donation recipient of the year this week, continuing a trend of giving to those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The group heard three presentations Tuesday night at the Lake Panorama National Conference Center for nominated projects in the county in need of financial assistance, and the group voted to give $15,000 to the Guthrie County Food Pantry operated by the New Opportunities Guthrie County Family Development Center located in Guthrie Center City Hall. 10 Squared Men Director Barry Monaghan mentions a salient point made by Frank Teale who spoke on behalf of the pantry, “We don’t believe or at least it’s hard for most of us to believe that there are actually people in Guthrie County who are hungry but the reality is that that’s very true. So the Guthrie County Food Pantry, we learned last night, people are only allowed to come there and pick up food once a month and so you kind of wonder what people do the rest of the time.”

The attendance was smaller for the organization at this week’s meeting, but Monaghan will be following up with its 150 members for each of their $100 to give to the pantry. The group made their first donation of the year this past April to the Guthrie County Hospital Foundation to purchase needed hospital equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic. The other two nominated organizations that were presented this week were the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Chaplains Association and the City of Bagley and Bagley Public Library.
