The Guthrie Center School Board discussed their return-to-learn plan and current enrollment numbers at their recent meeting.

The administrative team informed the Board that 26 elementary students and 14 high school students have registered for the online remote learning option, due to health concerns for the students or those living in their household. Elementary Principal Diane Flanery stated that 13 students out of the whole District have moved to homeschooling, which means they won’t be enrolled in the District. Flanery couldn’t provide an explanation as to why those families chose to do homeschooling as they were not required to give the District their reason.

School Board President Wes Policky asked what their plan is if a staff member or student tests positive for COVID-19, to which Flanery explained. “The return to learn plan says that if you’ve tested positive for COVID-19 you need to notify the school district so that we can notify public health so then they can start the tracing procedure and give us advice about what to do and how to handle that.”

High School Principal Ethan Lensch clarified that individuals who have tested positive are not required to notify the school district, but that is their own responsibility. Lensch also mentioned that enrollment numbers are up by 30 students this year, though that won’t be certified until October.
