Instead of football practice during the late afternoon and early evening hours of August 10, members of the Greene County High School football team got a workout, but not the kind they were used to. Instead of football practice, the players and coaches helped area residents clean up from the derecho storm that hit the county hard. Head coach Caden Duncan said he was glad the Rams could help out in a small way after such a devastating weather event.

Because of not practicing Aug. 10, the date of the first fully padded practice was pushed back from Aug. 15 to yesterday. Greene County opens the football season in Perry at Dewey Field vs. the Blue Jays on Aug. 28 for the renewal of the “Cowbell” series, one of the State of Iowa’s oldest “trophy” games. The contest will be broadcast on KG98, KDLS 1310 AM, 99.7 FM, and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
