The six Jefferson city parks came out of Monday’s storm with virtually no property damage.

Parks and Recreation Director Denny Hammen talks about the worst hit areas.

“I’d say the worst would be Washington Park. (We) did have a live wire that sparked across and started a small insulation fire right above the fuse box. The roof was damaged there a little bit and there will be some panels that will need to be replaced. We did have a little fence damage out at the softball field and we also lost a panel out of the crow’s nest at the softball field as well.”

Hammen appreciates the high school students that helped to clean up Russell Park. He says the pool was closed Monday following the storm. There was a large tree limb that fell near the water and crews were able to remove it and clean out the leaves before reopening the pool Tuesday. Hammen adds all of the parks are open and operational again.
