Over 100 Greene County students participated in the shortened summer school program.
According to the District, summer school lasted three weeks and included 101 kindergarten through 8th grade students, along with 17 teachers and 11 associates. The program is typically for those students who are designated as “required” or “recommended” as not being proficient in their literacy level. However, due to COVID-19, summer school was opened to any K-8th grader who wanted to participate.
The students worked in smaller groups and at times were given one-on-one attention. Additionally, a school counselor was on site to care for social and emotional needs of students, while a school nurse handled health related concerns. Everyone followed the social distancing guidelines, as well as washing and sanitizing hands to prevent further spreading COVID-19.
