Iowa high school sports practices are underway. Greene County fields teams in volleyball, cross-country, and football. Girls who want to swim do so at Boone High School under an athletic sharing agreement.
COVID-19 has affected every team one way or another, and keeping everyone safe and healthy is of utmost importance. Greene County volleyball head coach Chris Heisterkamp talks about some of the adjustments in her sport. “We are going to be wearing masks at some time. When girls are sitting on the bench they get to put on a mask. We’re working already on things like social distancing, and things like taking care of your own personal items. Someone can’t hand you something anymore. You touch your own items and that’s it.”
The coach said sanitizing of volleyballs and our hands continually. We’re getting our heads wrapped around the idea of using a mask on the bench, on the bus or any transportation, in the locker room, or in a huddle waiting. We’ll just put one on, and that’s it.”
The Rams will have a new home later in the season at the new Greene County High School. The gym isn’t quite ready yet with estimates of mid-September before that part of the building is ready to be used.
