The Greene County Republican Party held an open house Tuesday at its temporary headquarters in Jefferson.

The all day event was from 10am-7:30pm at the former Homestead Coffee and Bakery at 121 East Lincoln Way. The open house started with the “Donut Defund Our Police” where some of the local law enforcement officials spoke about the essential services they provide and how they need adequate funding to continue those services.

Then from 6-7:30pm was “Pizza and Politics.” The event was attended by over 30 people who heard guest speakers, District 47 Representative Phil Thompson who talked about the Democratic Party wanting to flip the Iowa House with former Democratic candidate for governor Fred Hubbel’s support. He also said the House and Senate Republicans have budgeted $1.1 billion for unknown expenses like COVID-19 impacting the state. Then Iowa Senate District 24 candidate Jesse Green spoke. He said he is ready to fight for the Republican Party and seeking support from Greene County. 

Greene County Republican Party Chair Roger Olhausen shared his thoughts of how the open house went.

“Well I think it’s been a great day. We’ve been real pleased with the turnout we’ve had. This is our opening day for the headquarters and we’ve had them before in past years. Normally in election years we have them and we think it’s a real good place for people to come and pick up signs and we can do some calling from here. But we’re really happy with how it’s going considering what everybody is facing right now with a lot of different things.”

The evening event wrapped up with Greene County Republican Party Central Committee Co-Chair and Regional Field Director for the Trump Campaign Sean Sebourn mentioning the Republican Party’s fall fundraiser on August 28th at the Grand Junction Community Center.
