Following severe weather across the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area, many residents in Dallas County are experiencing issues with power.

Just before 10 a.m. Monday, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Dallas County. The storm brought with it wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour. There were several reports of tree limbs down in Dallas Center, Adel, and Perry. According to Alliant Energy as of 2 p.m. Monday, over 245,000 customers are without power, including nearly 5,000 in Dallas County alone. This presents a danger as stoplights may be out of service. Bouton Fire also responded to an incident where a semi-truck was pushed over at a gas station along Highway 169. Crews were able to get the truck back up right. The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and Dallas County Emergency Management were on scene with the Bouton Fire Department.

In Minburn, there was severe damage to grain bins belonging to Heartland Co-op. Two blocks of Highway 169 was closed off due to downed power lines. The Minburn Fire Department was on the scene directing traffic. Several business in downtown Perry received significant damage. Traffic was limited in the area of 3rd and Willis due to debris in the roadway from damaged buildings. Dallas County Sheriff Chad Leonard tells Raccoon Valley Radio crews all over the county are working to clear up damage caused by the storm. Due to the storm, the Perry School Board has postponed their monthly meeting until further notice.
