A local business stepped up to provide financial aid to members of the Perry High School graduating class.
Hotel Pattee owners Tom and Vicki Maxwell have dedicated $20,000 in scholarships for Perry seniors. Tom tells Raccoon Valley Radio they wanted to do something for the graduating class who have already had to deal with a great deal of adversity graduating through the COVID-19 pandemic, “Well we wanted to do something different for this class. I mean, obviously COVID-19 really disrupted a lot of the school year for these kids. Education is very important in my wife’s family, and very important to us. Without scholarships we might not have been able to go to school either. It’s just something we wanted to do, something we felt passionate about doing something for this year’s graduating class. So we did 20 scholarships for 20 students for the class of 2020.”
The twenty students were recognized and officially received their scholarships at a limited ceremony Sunday afternoon. This is the first year the Maxwell’s have put together this scholarship program, but Tom says if all goes well, this could open the door to an annual program.
