Two grain storage bins completely destroyed at Heartland Cooperative in Rippey
There’s more information being reported following a Monday morning storm that came through Greene County.
Midland Power Cooperative Spokesperson Abbey Sprague tells Raccoon Valley Radio as of 5:30pm there are 450 customers without power in Greene County. She says crews are working to restore power, with their goal of getting it fully restored in the next 24 hours. Greene County Emergency Management Coordinator Dennis Morlan says most of Scranton and Grand Junction have power, Churdan, Rippey and Jefferson are still without power and Paton was unimpacted by any power outage or suffered any storm damage.
Morlan adds, there are trees on top of roofs, there have been a few people that suffered minor injuries following the storm and no one was seriously hurt.
Heartland Cooperative Senior Grain Operator in Rippey Jon Bushman tells Raccoon Valley Radio two of their four grain storage bins were knocked over and completely destroyed. Other structures that were damaged include the main dump site and part of the fertilizer plant with the receiving leg and distribution pipes.
Jefferson Public Works Director Dave Morlan says all of the streets are back open and passage again. He says a company is currently in town to pick up any storm brush that residents can put at the curbside. He adds, they will make only one pass throughout town, otherwise residents can either keep their brush until the City can pick it up at the end of this month or take it to the yard waste site near Daubendiek Park. Morlan notes, the water plant is being manually operated since the building has no power and city crews are currently using a mobile generator to power the City’s liftstations.
Sydney Bishop with Greene County Medical Center tells Raccoon Valley Radio that due to limited power, the public needs to call ahead for scheduled procedures for Tuesday, August 11th. As always, the emergency department continues to provide regular services.
Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
