The Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department is once again hosting a week-long program for kids who are entering kindergarten.

The Safety Camp program will be from 9-11am from August 4th-7th at the Greene County Community Center. Kindergarteners will learn about a variety of safety topics such as bus, bicycle, drugs/alcohol, strangers, fire and others. The program is free due to the sponsorship of the Jefferson Elks Lodge. JPRD Assistant Director Nathan Kral gives an overview of the camp.

“We just try to go over the basics with these young kids. Most of the topics covered are in 15 minute intervals so I mean they’re not listening to one thing for more than 15 minutes most of the time. We’re moving them around and doing different things with them. So it should go well.”

The program is limited to the first 20 registrations. To sign up, call 386-3412 or stop by the rec center in Jefferson.
