Greene County head baseball coach Matt Paulsen may be getting a phone call or two today from other coaches. That’s because the Rams played the two teams that square off in the 10:30 a.m. Friday State Tournament baseball semifinal between Dallas Center-Grimes and Gilbert in Des Moines. The winner between the Mustangs and Tigers will advance to Saturday’s Class 3A title game.

Gilbert won the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference title and defeated the Rams in both their meetings, once by the 10-run rule. DC-G and Greene County opened District play by facing each other on July 17 in Dallas Center and the Mustangs won that game by the 10-run rule.

Coach Paulsen told Raccoon Valley Radio both DC-G and Gilbert have outstanding teams with no apparent weaknesses. Both threw their number one pitchers in the Tuesday quarterfinals to advance to the semifinal round, so depth on the pitching staff could be a determining factor.

Sister station KDLS 1310 AM and 99.7 FM will be broadcasting the Mustangs and Tigers tomorrow morning from Principal Park in Des Moines.
