A popular service offered by Fareway will continue to be unavailable due to COVID-19 concerns.
Last week Governor Kim Reynolds extended Iowa’s public health emergency proclamation another 30 days. The update lifted the restrictions on bottles and can redemption services at Iowa retailers. In response Fareway President and CEO Reynolds Cramer released a statement that their Iowa locations will not be accepting redemptions, including locations in the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area. Cramer stated, “Health authorities continue to advise that COVID-19 and other viruses are transmitted through respiratory droplets. Accepting potentially contaminated containers inside our stores presents a great risk of harm to the health and safety of our employees and customers.” Each store will post a notice listing area redemption centers that the public can use instead.
