The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School Board held a special meeting Monday afternoon to discuss their Return to Learn plan.

The meeting began with the Board discussing adding a full-time nurse position for the high school. Superintendent Greg Dufoe says the District is due for another position and considering the possible extra workload for the upcoming school year amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s “essential.” The addition of another school nurse was approved unanimously. The Board then discussed where they’re at financially with extra costs brought on by COVID-19. Estimates have the District adding nearly $350,000 in additioaln expenses. However, with the on-site closures from the spring, the District did save around $160,000. Dufoe says he believes they’re in good shape financially, “Amidst all of this, the financial implications of this, this really difficult circumstance, we’re really very positive.”

The Board also had a lengthy discussion regarding the Return to Learn plan as they reviewed survey results from families and staff. No action was formally taken, but each board member shared they think a full on-site learning plan is going to be most beneficial for students. A special board meeting was then set for next Monday at 4:30 p.m. in Adel.
