Many questions surrounded the 2020 Iowa High School football season. Some of those were answered last Friday when the Board of Control of the Iowa High School Athletic Association voted to approve several measures related to the upcoming season. Official practice starts in just two weeks with many programs holding camps next week.
The official starting date for practice and for the regular season remains unchanged. What is different is that the regular season is now seven weeks instead of the normal nine weeks, and teams may choose to play five, six, or seven games within that period of time. Greene County will be playing seven games starting the the annual “Battle for the Cowbell” with the Perry Blue Jays in Perry on Friday, August 28 at Perry’s Dewey Field. The second non-district game on Sept. 4 in Jefferson remains unchanged with South Central Calhoun (Lake City), but scheduled contests with non-district opponents Southeast Valley (Gowrie) and Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) will not be played this season.
The five Class 2A District 9 contests remain intact and in the same order, only moved up two weeks from originally scheduled.
Another major change from the Board of Control is that all teams will qualify for the 2020 football playoffs, and those games being Oct. 16.
KG98 will broadcast all Greene County games this season and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com will have “live” streams and On-Demand podcasts of them all.
