The Dallas County Law Enforcement Center project is approaching the finish line.

Dallas County Sheriff Chad Leonard tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he officially moved into the new facility earlier this week. Leonard says over the next two weeks, the building will be inspected before the administrative team can officially move in, “There’s a handful of vendors out here. It’s all the small stuff that’s left. It seems like they’re just going from room to room and finishing those tedious things that are left. We’re finding other small things that need to be addressed, making a list and making sure they get dealt with before everybody leaves. So that’s really my purpose out here over these last two weeks is to inspect every inch of this place to make sure we’ve got it all done.” Leonard adds that there have been a few hiccups to the jail in the new building that they are currently addressing before inmates are transferred over.

The plan is to have the new facility fully functional August 3rd. Unfortunately, due to concerns over COVID-19 there isn’t an opportunity to host a public grand opening. The $23 million project has been near the top of the County’s priority list since the bond was approved in the spring of 2017.
