When the Iowa High School Athletic Association Board of Control voted on Friday to reduce the 2020 football regular season to no more than seven games instead of the usual nine, Greene County Activities Director Todd Gordon quickly made changes. The Rams will still open as originally scheduled on Aug. 28 in Perry as the Rams and Blue Jays face off in the annual “Battle for the Cowbell” at Dewey Field. The Rams open the home schedule on Sept. 4 in Jefferson vs. South Central Calhoun (Lake City), also as originally scheduled.
The changes for Greene County from the original schedule are deletions for 2020 vs. Southeast Valley (Cowrie) and Kuemper Catholic (Carroll). The District schedule remains in tact with the first Class 2A District 9 game now set for Sept. 11 in Jefferson vs. Atlantic instead of two weeks later, which was originally scheduled. Homecoming for Greene County is now set for Sept. 18 vs. Des Moines Christian, followed by a road game Sept. 25 in Red Oak. The last of the four home games is scheduled for Oct. 2 with Clarinda, and the regular season finally is set for Oct. 9 at Shenandoah.
Another major change for 2020 is that all teams are eligible for the playoffs in 2020, which begin on Oct. 16.
