A Paton man was recently sentenced after he held a party that violated a public health mandate.
According to court documents, 23-year-old Riley Rittgers pled guilty to two simple misdemeanors for permitting individuals under 18 years old to consume/possess alcohol on property and a public health violation. He was ordered to serve four days in the Greene County Jail and given credit for time already served.
The charges stemmed from an incident on April 3rd. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for a loud gathering at Rittgers home in the 200 block of Q Avenue. Deputies cited over 40 people for possession of alcohol underage, including the two charges that Rittgers pled guilty to. At that time, an Iowa Department of Public Health mandate prohibited social gatherings of more than ten people, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rittgers was also ordered to pay a $200 fine.
