Guthrie County baseball teams got a first hand look at several teams who will be competing at the state tournament next week.

AC/GC played five games against three state-qualifying teams. The Chargers lost to Des Moines Christian 12-2 early on in the season. Then they got to see the defending state champion Van Meter baseball team in a double header dropping both of those games. Both DMC and Van Meter will be playing for a Class 2A crown in Des Moines. The Chargers also got to see high-level 1A competition getting to play a double header with number one seeded Martensdale-St. Marys. Out of their 20 games, 20% of their games were against state qualifiers.

Panorama faced a similar gauntlet. The Panthers showed that they can go toe-to-toe with some of the best teams in the state. They played three games against Woodward-Granger who camped in the top five of Class 2A rankings all season long. The Panthers lost the first two in very close games before they were able to take out the Hawks in the District Championship game. Panorama also played the returning state champs in Van Meter very closely, only losing 2-1. Another state qualifying team the Panthers got a couple of looks at is Des Moines Christian. Panorama won the first meeting 6-2 and had a two-run lead in the sixth inning against the Lions during the Substate Championship game earlier this week before DMC came back and won 3-2.
