The Guthrie Center School Board approved some purchases and setting school fees and meal prices at their recent meeting.
The Board approved raising the adult meal prices to $3.85, increasing the student prices by $.10 to $2.45, and eliminating the grades 4-6 assignment book fee. The Board also approved a bid to repair the driveway and parking lots at both the high school and elementary for a total of about $175,119 from Henningsen Construction of Atlantic, with work expected to be done in June of 2021. Superintendent Dennis McClain then presented the Board with information on Boardworks Curriculum, a high school level online program which he said could be used for any online learning this coming year. The one-time cost for the program is $15,289 which the Board approved. The purchase is being funded from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act.
McClain also presented the Board with the desire to update water fountains at both school buildings so students can refill their water bottles without making physical contact with the units. The total cost of the project is about $9,774 to install five units at the elementary and two units at the high school, which shall be done by Doug’s Plumbing and Heating. The item was approved. The Board also reviewed end-of-year whole grade sharing expenditures with the Adair-Casey School District, which will be approved at a joint meeting held on July 27th at the A-C Junior High School Media Center.
