When the 2020 COVID-19 shortened Iowa high school baseball and softball seasons were about to get underway, Greene County players and coaches expressed gratitude they would have a chance to play. That remained the sentiment throughout the softball and baseball seasons for the Rams even though there weren’t as many wins as either team wanted.

The baseball team was 3-12 after losing their first seven games under first year head coach Matt Paulsen. The Rams dropped a Class 3A District 15 first round game by a 15-1 final on Friday night in Dallas Center to fourth ranked Dallas Center-Grimes.

The softball team was 5-11 after winning its first game, then losing seven straight. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team won three of four before ending the season in Humboldt Friday night with a 10-0 loss to the Wildcats, also ranked fourth.

The opportunity to play and be with teammates and coaches was expressed many times before, during, and after the seasons. Both head coach were especially happy for their seniors, who already had missed so many events because of COVID-19.
