The Perry Community School District held open meetings throughout the day Friday to gain public input and answer questions regarding their Return to Learn plan.

The meetings were originally scheduled to be held in the library of Perry High School before having to be moved to the Performing Arts Center to safely accommodate a larger crowd. During the 4 p.m. session there were more than 30 people in attendance.

Superintendent Clark Wicks led the meeting while also leaning on members of the School Board, administration, school nurses, and other staff members to chime in and answer questions more specifically for their area of work. The most common questions asked by members of the public pertained to the requirement of masks wearing, and social distancing protocols. According to the approved Return to Lean plan, masks will only be required while riding on district transportation vehicles. However, Wicks emphasized that there will also be moments throughout the course of a school day where masks will be strongly encouraged like in the hallways and other times of the day where social distancing is harder to enforce. This plan will also be discussed and possibly revised monthly by the School Board.

Other talking points of the meeting include restructuring certain schedules like lunchtime at the elementary school, the protocol for if a student does test positive, and Wicks demonstrated new sanitizing equipment purchased by the school.
