The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School Board discussed options for the start of the 2020-21 school year in regards to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Superintendent Greg Defoe and Director of Innovative Learning Travis Wilkins shared their plans with the school board at their recent meeting. The plan includes three different scenarios including full-remote online learning, on-site learning for students, and a third option which is a hybrid of the two where students would attend school two days a week and have remote classes the rest of the week. In all three plans, teachers and staff will be working from their respective facility.

Dufoe says even if students have to learn remotely, he feels confident based on results of the distance learning plan this past spring, “We feel really fortunate that the work we did this spring, under a voluntary distance learning plan, was so good and so [high] quality that we’re able to take that base plan and dial it up in order to meet the demands of what will now be a required distance learning plan if we’re in that situation due to health restrictions. So overall, we’re really pleased with the quality of the plan based on the results we saw this spring.”

The Board will hold a special work session next week to further discuss the plan. From there they’ll schedule a special meeting to take action on the plan before the start of the school year.
