Despite all the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Dallas County Expo was ruled a success by those involved.

The Dallas County Expo took place last week without any grandstand events or members of the public as the fair was postponed due to the threat of COVID-19. The only people allowed to attend were those directly involved in showing livestock or exhibits. Dallas County Extension Youth Coordinator Allie Wisgerhof admits the fairgrounds were quieter than usual, but it was a huge accomplishment to be able to allow the youth to show off their hard work, “We were so excited to have the opportunity to do this. Of course, it was in question for a while to know if we’re even going to be able to have a fair. So it was exciting to be able to have and offer the expo to the kids. We had about 200 livestock exhibitors, which was super exciting. Then we even had 150 static projects, which are our non-livestock exhibits that are here at the county [expo.] We were just happy to have them here. They missed out on so much this spring with the seniors graduating, and prom, and everything else. So it was exciting for us to offer them some kind of normal during this crazy summer.”

Wisgerhof added that they are already working on the 2021 Dallas County Fair, which is set for July 7-11th next summer.
