A continued lack of precipitation has pushed counties in the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area into severe drought conditions.
According to the U.S. Drought Monitor as of Thursday, a majority of Greene and Dallas counties, and the entirety of Guthrie County are in a severe drought. Severe drought conditions increase the risk of fires, stress livestock, and lower local water levels. Only 5.7% of the state is classified as being in severe drought. Additionally, Greene County is under a burn ban.
According to the National Weather Service as of Thursday, Perry has only seen 0.16 inches of rain this month, while Jefferson has had 0.15 inches and Guthrie Center was sitting at 0.63 inches.
