The Greene County softball team had it all working Wednesday night in Carroll in the first round of Class 3A Region 2 softball at the Carroll Athletic Complex. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team scored early and often en route to a 13-0 three-inning victory by the 12-run rule to advance to a semifinal tomorrow night in Humboldt at 7 p.m. against the second ranked Wildcats. Humboldt is 18-2 and won their tourney opener on Wednesday night 10-0 over Southeast Valley (Gowrie).

The Rams improved to 5-10 while the Knights ended their season at 9-10. Freshman pitcher Emma Hoyle tossed a three-inning no-hitter and hit a grand slam homer, the first round-tripper of her career and the first for Greene County this season.

The Rams put up 15 hits in the shortened contest with three hits by freshman Emma Stream (two singles and a double), three singles by senior Izzy Bravard, a single and double for both sophomore Carmyn Paup and freshman Olivia Shannon, and two singles for senior Kyla Beyers. Senior Tieryn Tucker, junior Makala Kafer and junior Karissa Stephenson added base hits. Greene County had season highs in both hits and in runs scored. The win was the first in the postseason for Greene County softball since 2015.

Kuemper had two base runners in the first inning on a walk and infield error, but Hoyle stranded the runners and retired the last eight batters in a row. The Knights had four errors to just one for Greene County.
