When Greene County visits Dallas Center tomorrow night and goes up against Class 3A number four Dallas Center-Grimes in the opening round of District 15 baseball, Coach Matt Paulsen’s Rams will see one of the more complete teams in the class. The Mustangs put up a 14-2 record in their first 16 games and are the Little Hawkeye Conference champions, a league comprised mostly of schools quite a bit larger than Greene County and Paton-Churdan combined.

Veteran coach Byron Peyton has a DC-G team with a combined .305 batting average that is a doubles machine. The Mustangs had 34 doubles, two triples, and one home run as of July 13.  The team earned run average is 2.07 with six shut outs and two other games allowing just one run. Defensively, DC-G is being charged with only one error per game.

The Rams are 3-11 on the season and will be trying for a major first round upset for the second year in a row. In 2019, Greene County topped number 8 Gilbert at Gilbert in round one of the district tournament.

Friday’s game can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. It’s the second game of a district doubleheader with Atlantic and Carroll meeting in game one at 5 p.m. and the Rams and Mustangs to follow.
